PRESIDENT’S COLUMN Upcoming NCS Board of Directors and Research Meetings this Spring NCS Leadership 2015-2016 By Ed Manno, MD, FNCS I have been involved with the NCS from the beginning of our discussions to Officers form the society many years ago. The initial movement was a giant upheaval Ed Manno, MD, president and, since then, we have had significant periods of acceleration and times we Michel Torbey, MD, vice president have had to reformat and regroup. You get a real feel of how Romergryko Geocadin, MD, the Executive Office manages all of the aspects of this growing enterprise. The enthusiasm is immediate past president tangible to such a degree that I see much of my role as directing this energy to what I think are the most fruitful and tangible efforts. Board of Directors To that end, this month our Board of Directors will be having a meeting in Minneapolis. The Mary Kay Bader, MSN, CNS meeting will not be the typical Board of Directors meeting with a list of agenda items to go Neeraj Badjatia, MD through. Instead, the purpose of the meeting will be to develop a strategic vision for the Society Julian Bösel, MD over the next several years, including discussions on the basic structure of the Society. Marion Buckwalter, MD, PhD Guadalupe Castillo-Abrego, MD The infrastructure of the Society has been undergoing some needed rebuilding. A new website Sherry Chou, MD and membership directory should be up and running within the next few weeks. The committed resources and time involved have been significant, however, I think it will be well worth it once it W. David Freeman, MD is completed. One necessary item to address when it is completed is that it will be important for Jennifer Frontera, MD every member to go onto the new website and update their profile. David Greer, MD Theresa Human, PharmD In addition, I have been in contact with several NCS members who have requested the formation Sarah Livesay DNP, RN of a new committee on community-based neurointensivists. For the first time, we had a booth at the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s Annual Congress in Orlando, Florida last month. The response was Kristine O’Phelan, MD tremendous and Becca Stickney from the NCS Executive Office was inundated with requests for DaiWai Olson, PhD, RN membership and review materials. Denise Rhoney, PharmD Fred Rincon, MD Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) continues to thrive and expand. Our international David Seder, MD outreach this year has included the Middle East, Japan, Korea, and future plans for courses in Kevin Sheth, MD the Philippines. We are always in need of trainers for this course. Please sign up for “train the Lori Shutter, MD trainer” involvement so we can continue this process. Wendy Wright, MD The continued expansion of the NCS has required the addition of more staff in the Executive Office. Trish Shomion has been hired as our Senior Marketing and Communications Manager Executive Director and Katie Fernstaedt has joined us as our Meeting and Project Coordinator.
