1st Regional Neurocritical Care Meeting in the Middle
East and Africa

The International Pan Arab Critical Care
Medicine Society (IPACCMS) and the
Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) are
partnering to develop the First Regional
Neurocritical Care Meeting in the Middle East
and Africa in conjunction with the upcoming
15th Emirates Critical Care Conference
(ECCC) April 4-6, 2019, in Dubai, United
Arab Emirates. This step was initially
conceived during the 2018 ECCC because of the fruitful
collaboration since 2011 and the success of the neurocritical care
regional meetings of sister global partners.
As part of the upcoming regional meeting in Dubai, there will
be a highlighted full-day track focused on neurocritical care
topics featuring NCS and regional faculty, three neuro-focused
workshops including ENLS, and an agreement to publish scientific
abstracts for presentation at the conference in the Neurocritical
Care journal (as per journal format). Only accepted abstracts
relevant to basic, translational and clinical research in neurocritical
care will qualify for this publication. Submission guidelines
will be available on the conference website in due course (www.
eccc-dubai.com). An award will be given at the meeting for the
outstanding scientific abstract presented at the conference.
The objectives of the regional meeting are to facilitate the NCSdefined
mission of promoting quality patient care, facilitate
professional collaboration, discuss research ideas and start
initiatives, introduce members of the MENA region to possible
specialized training opportunities worldwide, and improve
standards of care in the region. Both NCS and IPACCMS believe
these bilateral efforts will create a positive synergy in the region
and improve the ability of
neurocritical care teams
and “general” ICU teams
treating neurosurgical/
neurological patients
to provide excellent
multidisciplinary patientcentered
care.

Global Partnership
Milestones
Since 2011, the Neurocritical Care-Middle East and North Africa
(NCC-MENA) Chapter of the IPACCMS was one of the first global
partners of the NCS. NCS leadership is invited to sit during the
NCC-MENA chapter of the IPACCMS’s annual meeting. Over the
years, the neurocritical care track of the ECCC has continued to
grow. ENLS was first introduced in April 2016. In 2018, the NCS
Nominating Committee confirmed the NCC-MENA Chapter
nominee as its first NCS Board of Directors member to represent
the Middle East and North Africa region.
